ATL to NOLA

We'll be traveling from SC through Atlanta to New Orleans in mid-May in a 42'DP with toad. From ATL, we can take 85/65/10 or 20/59. I know most any stretch of interstate has it's issues, especially on a trip of that length. Anyone take one of those routes recently or have an opinion which might be have less construction and/or better road conditions?

Thanks!

I-10 had some minor work going on the west side of Mobile when I was there in the summer. Did not get any further than Mississippi.
However 20 is brand new surface from the Ga line into Birmingham. Not a good idea to follow 20 thru B'ham. Bad road and thugs. Take 459 south around B'ham.
Boring trip to NO either way. I20 thru Atlanta can be a pain when you cross the 75/85 downtown connector. Road gets curvy (they were trying to save 'historic' neighborhoods) until you get to285 on the top side. It gets a bit better around 6 Flags.

Not much to see...but you'd be well advised to limit your time along Interstate 10...(aka America's Longest Pothole) until you get to New Orleans with is the City of Potholes!

I-10 thru LA, Louisiana not Lower Alabama, is horrible. I'd avoid if poss. I-20 in West Ga thru e AL used to be rough but think it's been addressed. Have a good trip.

We traveled the entire length of I-59 last month and I thought it was a good route. A few light rough patches, some repaving work, not much traffic, pretty drive down through MS. Go around Birmingham on 459. We were only on I-10 for a little ways and the road was okay but the traffic was very heavy so I would go 20/59. Here is my blog post which includes a place to stay - Big Dude's Eclectic Ramblings: 2016 Louisiana Trip – Final Thoughts
