Going into Atlanta from 75 what is the best route to go south on 75 toward fla

Depends on what time you are planning to pass through Atlanta but staying in I75 straight through is what I do.

Straight thru do not take the bi-pas. I called the state patrol and told them I had a 35 ft.rv towing a car, they said as long as 2 people were in the vehicle we could use the carpool lane. Did that once, If you do not want to use that, stay in the second lane from the right. when that right lane ends move one lane to the left and you will never get caught in the exit lane. I hear a lot of stories about Atlanta traffic, but I have never had a problem. Have been thru there many times and never had a bad experience. Good Luck

Unless there are alerts on my GPS or highway info signs we drive straight through.

I also try to stay in the 2nd lane from the right.

We try to time the drive so that we hit Atlanta after the AM rush or before the PM rush.

Seriously. I285 is so jacked up right now, straight through town on the connector is the best way to go. Try to hit it between 10 and 2.

I like to go thru on Sunday mornings early. You will shoot right thru.

Beware there is a lot of construction along the RH side of I-75 south from the Acworth Hwy 92 exit all the way to and past the I-285 exits as you approach Atlanta from the north. I'm with the others, stay on I-75 right straight through and stay in the 2nd or 3rd lane from the RH side. Try to go between Midnight and 6am unless on a Sunday. But even Sunday's can be dicey. If you don't want to go through the construction areas exit at Red Top Mountain (Exit 285) and take US Hwy 41 south to I-285 West and bypass on the west side. The downside to that is there will be a lot of stop lights but depending on the time of day it may be faster that way. Either way you go have a lot of patience. BTW this was almost a daily trip for me before I retired.

Sounds just like LA traffic. I've never driven in Atlanta and didn't realize it is so conjested.

It's interesring that one can use the HOV lanes (s) in GA while towing. Can't do that in Cali because towing is only allowed in the two right lanes.

I too recommend you stay on I75 right through town, and forget the bypass. It's shorter, less traffic and much quicker.

The first time we did this it was by accident, I missed the bypass cut off, at rush hour! (I know, bad planning) I was pleasantly surprised at how easily we passed through the city, the only traffic tie ups were where the bypass merged back into the main highway.

It's worse than normal right now. We have the new Atlanta Braves stadium going in right at the I285-I75 junction on the north side. They are redoing the interstates and exchanges all through the area.
The Atlanta Falcons stadium being built next to the Georgia Dome but that is not really affecting traffic too bad.

Unfortunately I drive though Atlanta a few time a year- I plan ahead and stop overnight at the Welcome center just south of Chattanooga and leave there about 8am and head into Atlanta-about 10 am- I Always take the bypass and stay in the center lane- no matter what. besides the occasional accident I go right around to 75 south.
There is major construction coming in from the north.

I would strongly suggest staying out of the car pool or toll lanes with any type of RV in metro Atlanta.

You will have tailgaters all over you, then they will pass you even if they have to cut over the "don't cross double white lines" then cut you off when they jump back in, again, ignoring the don't cross lines, and proably "brake check" you for spite, and of course give you the single finger salute. Not to mention, you are right against the jersey barriers.

Middle lanes allow you to make easier and appropriate lane changes as needed, and will keep everyone happy.

Just be patient.......

As for going straight through on 75,85, 20, vs. 285, through trucks are not allowed inside the 285 loop (RVs are fine) so that is a nice advantage. 285 is a race track, and the trucks are very impatient, so if possible, I avoid it in my RV, although to get between 20 on the west side and 75 or 85 on the north side, it's really the best, even if ugly, option, and unfortunately the most congested part of 285.

Between 75 connecting to 675 on the south side and 85 on the north side, 285 around the east side can be a viable option.

Of course, when going though downtown, try to see if there are any events going on.......

That is why I only did it once. Never had a problem with other cars, I did keep my speed up, but I just did not feel comfortable in that lane. Plus I have never gotten tied up in the regular lanes. slowed down a few times, buy never remember being stopped.
