Between the town of Morenci and Morenci Mine there is a 12' tunnel and serious switchbacks near the mine. The alternate route would be to use US 70 and US 60 to avoid the tunnel and switchbacks.

IYO would 60 between Show-Low and Globe be a better route out of the hills into the deserts?

I'm not clear on where you're coming from or where you're going, or what you consider desert. Pretty much of New Mexico and Arizona have large areas of desert terrain. US 191 near Morenci would be interesting if you're into large mining operations, the tunnel is 12' 7" according to the photos. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/481111172671507664

You don't want to drive Hwy 191 between Alpine and Morenci with your RV, although you don't have a Signature line in your post telling us what you're driving. Adding one would be helpful in answering questions. It would then appear on all posts you make.
Where are you coming from and where are you going?
Hwy 60 is just fine, as is 260. Some hills but that's the beauty!

AZ Hwy 191
We left Benson AZ on the 18th and went Safford-Globe-Show Low and then Holbrook. Roads are good and Salt River Canyon beautiful as ever. If you’ve not seen the Petrified Forest you can stay free at the Crystal Forest gift shop on south end of park. Park is free too if you have the senior pass.

Quick question.
Is that 12' 7" measurement the height directly under the sign?

Since it's a curved roof, I'd guess 12'7" would be the maximum height. It's certainly not that high at the edges of the lanes, an RV would have to straddle the centerline and hope you don't meet something coming the other way.

This was my thought as well, but thought I'd ask. California measures from the road edge, but not sure about other states. Logically, at least to me, it should be the lowest clearance point, in this case the sides, but it's really not clear.

Suggest you measure your rig before you try this. If it's that close, Murphy will win. If you really want to go there measure to determine your height with air bags dumped. May be embarrassing but better than backing out!
