This trip I took 58 east through Tehachapi to the Pilot at Kramer Junction and turned right on 395 down to 210 to 10 to Palm Desert.
Last trip I took I5 down to the Grapevine east.
I prefer taking 58 so I don't mix with the trucks on the Grapevine

Up over the hump on 58 east, then 395 south to I-15 West (go slow down Cajon, GEAR DOWN !!!! it is long and steep), I-215 to I-10 east.and on to Palm Desert.
( You want to AVOID the LA basin as much as you can!)

There are several rv parks along the way and dry camp waysides as well

enjoy!

way less traffic if you take 58 east to I-15 then two miles to Barstow take 247 to yucca valley then 62 to 10 to palm springs

Yup, did not know how they would handle somewhat skinny roads so did not mention.

Either route you shouldn't have to make any stops as it usually only takes about 4 hours (about 235 miles)

We've been coming to Palm Desert for several years now and did this route this year for the first time. It will be our new "go to" route. Although most of the road this way has no shoulders, it's a good road and NO traffic.

I'll take the 247, even with the 2 grandfather than the LA extended traffic any day. Just over the 247 route 2 weeks ago with my C with toad and before with the 40' with toad no problem with several places to stop for food. We usually stop for lunch in Yucca Valley. Only caution is along steep grade into the Palm Springs area, not a problem just a heads up.

I had been wondering the same after seeing the brain-dead construction lane control in November. Caltrans site shows nothing about issues with 247 so I was assuming it was complete. Nice to have recent traveler reports. It is now our go to route from Bakersfield as well.

Not sure about recommending for first timers. I know for the first thousand miles in mine I preferred mostly Interstates.

Guess I'm much more conservative than most of you. Living in So Cal, I've driven both. I would only use the 247 route if for some reason Cajon Pass was closed. 58 to 395 to 15 to 215 to 210 to 10 is most definitely the route I would take. As always, with traveling So Cal, avoid traveling during commuter times. (Incidentally, winds can really kick up in the desert areas. There's a surprisingly nice public park out by the glider airport in Techachapi. Desert Willow RV is in Hesperia. Either will work well as a place to wait out the winds.)

Heading to desert hot springs tomorrow.
Has any body been 58 to 395 in the last few days? If so any snow or road conditions?
Driving a 34 foot class A with a toad.
Thank you.
