Next week heading from NJ to College Park, MD. I have read conflicting views on passage through the tunnels under Baltimore Harbor in class A mh with propane tank. I know propane bottles are banned but are tanks treated differently?

Assuming I need to avoid the tunnels, what is the best route I should take?

Also, just found out my new Garmin RV 760 send to not factor in propane in it's routing. Can't find a way to enter propane into my vehicle profile.

Per regulations propane is excess of 10lbs per container is prohibited. Don't go that way.!!!! Google Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Propane regs for complete listing and alternate routes.

We went around over the Francis Scott Key bridge on 695. A little longer, but no tunnels and the view was nice from the bridge.

Thanks. I did look at Maryland regs. Didn't know if tanks were treated differently than bottles. I will avoid. Now decision is 695 east/south or west towards Towson. If Francis Scott Key Bridge is ok for mh, that direction seems shorter?

We just went through the tunnels on a round trip. Fleetwood Revolution LE with a full propane tank. They just had us pull over and close the valve on the on board tank. No problem.

Interesting to say the least......

Why no laws on the tunnels in Virginia? 2 sets of them.......I saw gas tanker's and propane tankers going through them on my last trip.......

Portable propane tanks in excess of 10 lbs capacity are restricted, but an integral tank that is a part of the RV fuel system is not. You are required to turn off any open flames.

Maryland regulations discuss this in the first two paragraphs of their tunnel regulations.

On a personal note, I would just go around and avoid the hassle completely.

It is illegal to go through either Baltimore tunnel with propane bottles or tanks in excess of 10 pounds.If traveling to the college park area take 695 west to 95,especially if staying at Cherry Hill campground.

This came up several months ago and several people said they went through with no problem.

I think I'd go there and see what happens, sounds like you'll have no problem.

If you get to the Baltimore Tunnel (from the north) and they turn you around the ride over to the Key Bridge is through a rather seedy neighborhood, with cross streets, traffic lights, stop signs, etc. Made that mistake only once. Just head directly to the Key Bridge, it's literally a 10 minute detour.

Replies continue to be mixed. My read of the rules is that fixed, permanently mounted, propane tanks are allowed and you should have the tank valve closed. But not everyone agrees.

However, it is not worth having to stop and possibly be turned around. Plus DW doesn't like tunnels. In past trips in a car, I have gone the Key bridge route, but I think this trip I will go I-695 west towards Towson. According to Google it is only 10 extra miles. I think that direction the route will be an easier drive.
