Best route from Golden to Estes Park, Colorado

Will be leaving Dakota Ridge in Golden, CO tomorrow, headed to Elk Meadow in Estes Park. Looks like the shortest route is CO 93 to Boulder, then US 36 to Estes Park. I know it would only take a little longer to go out to I-25 and up, but I generally like a scenic route better.

If, of course, it's safe to travel in a DP towing a Jeep! Anyone have experience with this route to share?

Thanks!

Done them all - You left out the Best and most scenic - Peak to Peak with RT 6 thrown in for good measure.

Map - https://binged.it/2xk5XAf

This will take you out on RT 6 along Clear Creek then will run you by the Casinos - where it is Called Peak to Peak - along the way you will pass Golden Canyon SP - Colorado Parks & Wildlife - Golden Gate Canyon - Then on through Nederland - with many options to stop and Hike - Ward and Red Rock Lake is fun then on up to Estes Park.

Great time to be in Colorado - Aspen are just thinking about changing - Trail Ridge will be an Awesome drive.

We always take RT 6 and Peak to Peak may look a little curly but is a GOOD road and is easily driven in an RV. (We do it all the time in our Coach - 42dp with MDX)

If you need to drive through Boulder (RT 93 goes through downtown) then have at it, still a nice drive, just along the edge of the Foothills not nearly as Beautiful as back in the Mountains.

Highly Recommend the Drive,

Best of Luck,

PS - if you are ever back in the area look into staying IN Golden at Golden Clear Creek - https://rec.cityofgolden.net/wbwsc/w...ash.html?wbp=3 - - Or Golden Canyon SP, just two great spots.

Thanks! Would love to do the Peak to Peak, but maybe not in the coach. Went up that way as far as the casinos the other day, before it started raining.

Aspens are turning now, especially higher up. Did Guanella Pass yesterday, and it was awesome!

Thanks for the tip on Clear Creek RV park, we saw that the other day while walking around Golden. Toured the School of Mines Geology Museum -- what an impressive collection!

Dakota Ridge is OK, and a very convenient location for exploring the area, but a bit crowded and noisy.

First time in the area we stayed in Dakota Ridge - works but really not my sort of place for more than just the night. Once we found Golden Clear Creek we have always stayed there - love it, even visit with the Grand daughters when we fly in just a great walk around area.

Honestly I think you will love the drive in the Coach, the road is fine, the views are to die for and you are there to see things, not drive in traffic which RT 93 will allow.

Click on the map and Zoom in to any area you are not comfortable with to see if it's not alright. Given this Route to Many and never had anyone say it was not Great.

Might zoom in to see your way through Boulder - not Coach Friendly. (JMHO)

While in Estes, just get out of town early to avoid the Crowds and get into the Mountains, they are just Beautiful.

Trail Ridge - do in the Toad to see if you might do in the Coach - we do it also as we enjoy Grand Lake the Town - just quiet and more fun.

Best of Luck, let us know what you do and how it turns out.

Trust me, I'd love the route, but my front seat passenger not so much. Someday I might have to get her a blindfold ...
