Best Route from Indy to SD

We are currently touring the east coast and are heading back to SD. We will be in Indinapolis in two weeks and need info from there. What is the best way from Indy to get up to I-90. Should I take I-74 from Indy to Chicago, up and around or head farther west before going up?

I think you have two better choices

ONE
I-74 to I-39 north to I-90 at Rockford

TWO
I-74 to I-80 west to I-280 northwest US-20 West to I-35 north to I-90 at Albert Lee

I realise this is an old post but I am new here and just saw it. I have been through Rockford several times on the way to Minnesota but never pulling a camper, new to that also. The section of I39 which runs with I90 with toll roads is an absolute nightmare in a car. I cannot imagine pulling a camper through that area. We plan to go back to MN again this year and will be using skigramp's option #2. Jim.
