Coming from Maine to Wilmington,NC in the fall. Looking to avoid the large metro areas as best we can.Anyone suggest an alternative route that you have used? We are not in a big rush.

I would get to the Mass Pike I/90 as best you can then, I/84 to I/81 to I/77 to I/40 into Wilmington. Going down the only toll will be the Mass Pike which is about $3.25 for our 5 axle combo.

Thanks,Ed.Am familiar with most of that route,but have yet to do the Virginia portion.. How’s the road? Slade is very handsome,btw,we have a 10 yr old GSD named Maxamillion whom co pilots with us.

The VA section has a lot of hills but nothing bad. There is a long down hill on I/77 just before you enter NC. Just control your speed and you'll be fine.
