Blue Ridge Parkway

We are heading to the Skyline Parkway, Blue Ridge Parkway , and the Outer Banks this summer. Any suggestions for campgrounds near by and routes there from Boston area. Doing the parkways first then the Outer Banks.
Thanks for any suggestions.

There is a 12' tunnel on the Skyline Parkway and 3 on Blue Ridge Parkway you will have to detour around, 2 are just a little over 11' and one is 10' 6". There has also been some construction projects on the Blue Ridge Parkway you may want to check on. They may not affect you depending on how far you travel on each of the parkways. Google "tunnels" on each of the parkways for the milepost locations.

Did 10 years ago in a 33 ft Class A gasser and lost our brakes. Long story made it okay but recommend doing in your Toad

blue ridge parkway

BRP north of Breckinridge and south of Kremmling has a stretch of about 5 miles that is mostly dirt road. If at all possible, avoid it, particularly in an RV. We had no choice today.....didn't know about until it was too late.

Since this is the first and hopefully last time travelling on that road, I don't know how much longer it might be in that condition. In Ohio, they would not allow so much traffic on such a terrible road. But then, we don't have mountains to go around !!

Camp Hatteras

In the outer banks, Camp Hatteras is a nice park south of the Highway 64 bridge onto the banks. On Hatteras island. You will have to cross the Bonner bridge and last fall we also had an additional Bailey Bridge (steel temporary bridge) south of the Bonner Bridge. I think there is a KOA next door to Camp Hatteras.
