Buffalo to Cody

Have a 40ft DP and toad traveling from Custer to Buffalo to Cody
Is hwy 14 ok or do I need to travel via hwy 16
I have seen a couple of posts suggesting 14 is not a good choice

We did 16 a couple of years ago. Next time I will do 14 but stay off 14A which branches off of 14 on the west side of the Big Horns.

We did 16 at Buffalo. Ten sleep was very pretty. No problems with a 36 ft Pace pulling a Honda Civic.

14 is a lot more scenic than 16, but it is a bit steeper. Unless you are totally freaked out by mountain roads, should not be a problem. If you do take it, be sure to stop an take a walk around at the Shell Canyon visitor center.

14A is the steepest of all. See the photo below. It is my favorite of the three, but I would not suggest it unless you are very confident in mountain driving. If you should decide to take 14A, take some time to go see Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area just east of Lovell. The scenery is amazing, and both wild horses and bighorn sheep are usually found right along the road. As fringe benefit, camping there is free, with a small fee for electricity.

I'll stick to 16.
I think it will be easier on the coach and the wife.
We are currently in the Black Hills and loving your National Parks.
I have skied Jackson Hole and really looking forward to seeing the Grand Tetons without snow.

16 is a very good route and the scenery is great. There is a wide turn out at Powder River pass where over night parking is ok. It's at 9700' and we enjoyed a very peaceful night there. Lots of stars.
