When I used to travel from LA to Redding I would take the 99 when I was driving all night to avoid all the little towns and cities but during the day I would take the 5, it's a lonely road going on the 5 but it is fast. I don't know what it's like now, but when I lived in that area, pre 2003, Hwy 138 btwn Victorville and Palmdale was considered one of the more dangerous routes in Socal.

The Route it self is not dangerous....it's the Idiots that drive it, just sayin
