CA 89 Monitor Pass

Asked also in another forum, but thought I'd ask here too.

My friend with his 34' gasser (plus toad) wants to take Hwy 89 from Topaz over the Monitor Pass to Hwy 50. Is this doable? How bad are the grades?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Ron

Its a winding mtn rd but certainly doable. The better option is to go to Gardnerville and turn left at the 7/11 which is Centerville Rd just as your coming into Gville and cut across to 88.

Thanks Nick for your reply see and over at the other place. As I mentioned over there, my friend has decided to go on up to Hwy 50 and cross over the mountains there.

. . .Great & wonderful scenic drive, but, I do not think I would do it in my 30' without a toad. . . Class C I have done it. . .Lots of times over by car or truck also. . .
