CA: Hwy 18 from Lucerne Valley to Victorville / Hwy 395

We are headed to Bakersfield, CA from Palm Springs, CA via Barstow via SR 247, there is a smaller road (SR 18) that cuts over from Lucerne Valley to Victorville, CA and would put us on SR 395 going north and up onto SR 58 going west through Mojave and on into Bakersfield.

Does anyone have comments on the SR 18 route from Lucerne Valley to Victorville / SR 395?

Our rig is a 30' class A with a small toad.

The route you have chosen over highway 18 is completely doable in your rig. It is a decent 2 lane highway, mostly high desert. Just continue on 18 to 395 instead of going thru Apple Valley. Highway 395 is two lane with frequent passing lanes between Victorville and Highway 58. Highway 58 is divided most of the way between Kramer Junction and Bakersfield, with some two lane just west of the 58/395 junction. Have a safe trip.

Thanks for the feedback Dieselclacker.... The goggle / earth map sat photos and street level images help a lot in researching potential road too, but comments from those like yourself can not be replaced...

I am planning on refueling in Mojave, but from the images I see on google it looks like one has to go on into town from the CA 58 bypass.

Thanks again....

Cerratos Grotto, you are correct on the 58 bypass at Mojave. There is a Pilot station at the intersecton of 395/58, and an Arco 1/4 mile to the east of that intersection, both are RV friendly as to entry/exit. Its approx 60 miles Mojave to Bakersfield, fuel and Gas is about 25 cents per gal less there if it matters, and you can make the extra miles.
Watch for the wildflowers when decending on 58 down to Bakersfield. Happy miles.

We made a similar journey when we left Quartzsite for Bakersfield and on north.. but I want to check with Sacs as to which route it was...

Hi MM,

We done did it already and are now sitting in Deerwood #8. Where are YOU? In Bakersfield, we stayed at Orange Grove again. We played hopscotch with a Monaco Dynasty with WA plates and a white toad all the way up I5 (from CA 58 into Orange Grove, where they stayed too). Now I wish I would have caught their plates or their FMAC numbers. Maybe tomorrow we will see them again and I'll snap a photo of them. I have begun feeling like the proverbial turttle as they honk and go by!
