CA Roads are HORRIFIC

Man. I pay a lot in taxes. Where in the heck is all of that money going?

Driving south on I5 through stockton and the road was just horrible. Towing my boat and taking it easy. Road construction everywhere for all of eternity on this stretch and still awful.

Get home and my trailer jack had dropped down. It is the kind that rotates and has a wheel. Luckily no damage. Look over and my damned exhaust tip is missing! Luckily it doesn't look like it hit the boat.

If you know the rotating trailer jacks you know the amount of jostling it would take to have the spring loaded pin disengage. Add to that my exhaust tip just bounced right off too! tip and jack on opposite sides, so tip didn't hit jack.

We are so looking forward to getting out of this state permanently. Took delivery of our Prevo in Beaumont California and "enjoyed" the lovely California roads, including all the construction on Hwy99 all the way back to the Sacramento area. 11 months and counting until we launch on the road full time! I'm a teacher, so I know our taxes aren't really going into my classroom -- not sure where they're going!!

You guys are tough to please, griping about bad roads and then griping about the construction necessary to fix 'em. Amazing!

Last year we took a trip from WA to Fresno, then over to Phoenix and back towing our '05 Honda Ody four down.
Got home and had to replace all four tires due to excessive wear and have a four wheel alignment on the Ody. That was about $1,000 in damage and I blame it all on the CA roads.

Took a 4800 mile trip recently through Nevada, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah and California definitely ranks number one for worst roads.

Live near Stockton so know what you mean.

I am a California refugee, I escaped in the late 80s and every time I visit there, it looks worse and worse. Our roads in Oregon aren't perfect, but they're in fairly decent shape considering the fact that everyone uses studded tires if more than three snowflakes hit the ground... and car registration is about $100 for two years regardless of YOM.

That section has been terrible for years I hate going through there in the motorhome. I know what you are saying about taxes they keep taking and nothing gets fixed . its amazing when I have gone to Oregon the road changes right at the state line so I know they are using their taxes on the roads

Want to know where your money goes? Just take a look around at the entitlement society. And the politicians are only interested in promising more give-aways so they can continue "serving" their gimme constituents. Soon the rich will start the exodus, and then you'll see Detroit's all over the place.

The money is going overwhelmingly to teacher, cop, and fireman salaries, pensions and medical benefits.

As far as the roads go, I moved to Cali from Indiana in 1990. While the roads are much worse now, they are still MUCH better that Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan. I popped tires and bent rims there. A friend spent his senior prom in the ER after a huge chuckhole at a railroad crossing tore the front suspension off his car, and broke his nose against the steering wheel.

No matter where you are west of the rockies there's just not the freeze/thaw cycle that kills midwestern concrete.

It's all relative.....

Best roads in the country are in AZ, by far the best. CA are some of the worst.

Today I came up from Bakersfield to Lodi on 99. They have made many improvements on 99 - not done by a long shot but much better than a couple of years ago. It is certainly bad near Stockton but so is I-5 near Stockton. We have traveled both I-5 and 99 once or twice or more each year for several years and I think both highways are getting better. BUT they should have been repaired years ago. Just my opinion.

Late last month I also went I5 through Stockton and it broke the cargo carrier and bike rack. Didn't know it until we stopped for gas in Modesto. Also while going through L.A. the frame on the bathroom cabnet came apart. It was attached to the wall, but the frame came off. That was state 3 of 12 for us in 5 weeks and the worse roads we were on.
