We have spent the 08' winter in nothern California with mild temp's and wind. Due to and ocassional rain the weather here is perfect for day hiking trips along the beaches. What we have found interesting are the different types of rocks that you might find on the beaches. One might find jasper, agates, even jade, but for the price of you just getting out and enjoying the fresh air what better place no matter where you are. Also for those of you who haven't been to the giant Redwoods here are awesome areas with just majestic size and ferns that cover the valley floors.A small town that we would recommend for those in the area is Trinidad, with a rugged but beautiful coastline with sea lions, and whale watching. Wait till sunset to see her spectacular setting in the horizon. We will remember this area and hope to come back someday.I truly am impressed with this area and uncrowded spaces. For those looking for full hookups, Sounds of the Sea rv park is a good nights rest off Hwy.101 in Trinidad California. Safe and happy travels to all, and many new adventures

Hi,

Thanks for the post. You are preaching to the choir here (to me anyway). I grew up in Humboldt County and my folks still live in Fortuna.

I try to get back as often as I can - maybe someday I will win the lottery and have the $$$ to live in California!!!

both correct,
Northern Cal coast is spectacular as is the Oregon coast. If your fond of Salmon fishing, try the mouth of Klamath (if the dept of fisheries doesnt close it down permanently) Some nice RV parks there with easy access to the river OR ON the river
While your in the area, dont miss the Somoa cookhouse near Arcata
