California To N.W. Arkansas

Will be leaving soon for our first extended trip in our Fleetwood Providence. I-40 will be our main highway of travel, but we do want to get off the beaten path. We have travelled I-40 many times in a passenger vehicle, but the first time we are not in a hurry in the motorhome. We are researching places to see along the way, rvparks to stay in, and places, routes to avoid. Also, some of the Indian sites, volcanic areas, may not be suited for a rig this size, and while towing a car. We are looking for some advice and recommendations for our side trips. We plan on one week to get to our destination. Thanks!

We've enjoyed the run from Camp Verde AZ to Socorro NM on AZ SR 260/87/260 and US 60. Very scenic and much less crowded than I40. Show Low AZ is a nice stop. Adds about 150 miles vs. I40 (rough estimate!!).

Pie Town NM is a great stop, especially the Good Pie Café for their great coffee and unique pies and conversation. We love the apple-green Chile-pine nut pie!!!

Camp Verde has a full range of RV parks that should meet just about anyone's needs.

We stayed at Casey's Socorro RV Park in 2012 and while some may find it a bit "edgy", it is a good value and the restrooms are clean. We had no complaints and the sites are big and accessible to large rigs.

Enjoy your trip!!!
