Cape Hatteras RV Parks

Early October for Cape Hatteras and the Outer Banks as we drive from Chesapeake to Charleston. Looking for suggestions/thoughts on RV Parks. A few names that look interesting include: Ocean Waves CG, Cape Hatteras Nat'l Seashore/Oregon Inlet, Frisco Woods CG. Your recommendations are always appreciated.

Camp Hatteras in Waves. There is or was a nice KOA right next door. We left the area after Irene and it was a mess don't know how 12 handled Sandy. Cool place lots of wind!

For full hookups I recommend Camp Hatteras or Ocean waves.
Oregon Inlet has no hookups but free water and dump station are available at the marina.
Camp Hatteras is our favorite. All sites are spaced well apart and there is a choice of the ocean side or the sound.

Scratch the location of Camp Hatteras. It's Rodanthe.

Ocracoke Island

I'm at the campground on Ocracoke Island. Cost us $103. for 9 nights. No hookups, but there is water and a dump site across the road. John

We're going to be at Camp Hattares in September. Never been before, but it had good reviews. From what I could see on Google Earth, it looked pretty good. We reserved an ocean front site.

All of the ocean side parks on Hatteras have varying height dunes between the sites and the ocean, which of course is a good thing in most cases. Camp Hatteras has some sound side sites right on the water.
We have always stayed at Ocean Waves as it is less expensive and has all the hookup amenities of the others, but not a lot of activities. We are headed down in a few weeks, but will be staying down in Avon - had a bad front office experience trying to make the same reservation we did last year and after three calls, gave up.

We were at Camp Hatteras last year right after the hurricane. My wife loved being on the ocean front sites because it was a short walk to the beach across the dunes. I'm not sure I would pay for ocean side because you can't see the water over the dunes. The KOA next door was cleaning up and by the end of the week, some of their sites were open. I liked Camp Hatteras over the koa setting. If I went back, and we will, our choice would be sound side at Camp Hatteras I think. Of course the wife might override my thinking. jmo mark

Vince,

We stayed at Ocean Waves Campground in Rodanthe. Would do it again.
