I am wondering what route you would take. I sure want to avoid driving thru the Atlanta traffic, (unless it is 3 or 4 am).
When I drove a car, i would drive I-75 north in Florida to I-10 west and take a short cut to I-65 south of Birmingham. But, that shortcut, went thru a LOT of small towns and Dothan, Al, so it would not be a desirable route to drive a motorhome with a toad. I guess we could drive thru Atlanta at night.
What would you do?

I would just do I-75. The traffic is not that bad. Just don not useany of the bypasses, they are the worst. My brother lives north of Atlanta and use I-75 all the time...No problems...Peace....D

I have driven thru Atlanta several times in a car and the traffic is HORRIBLE. I would rather get a root canal that drive thru Atlanta driving a DP with a toad. You have to know ahead of time which lanes to get in, or it's too late and you cannot get in it. Thanks anyway.

I also agree- straight up I 75 and straight thru the center. I usually go thru at non-rush hour or if in rush hour I've used the west side I 285. One's no worse than the other. Just use patience and soon you'll be in Marietta with just as bad traffic.
Safe journeys...

Your original route is just about right. Try this:

I-75 north to I-10 west
I-10 west to Florida State Road 85 north
State Road 85 north to Alabama State Road 55 north
State Road 55 north to U.S. 31 north
U.S. 31 north to Alabama State Road 106 west
State Road 106 west to I-65.
I-65 to Indianapolis

The stretch from north of Crestview, Florida to Andalusia, Alabama is two lane, but little traffic. The route from Andalusia, Alabama to Georgiana, Alabama and I-65 is four lane, 65 mph speed limit, no stopping for small town traffic lights. You also avoid Dothan and the stop and go that you described.

I would avoid I-75 through Atlanta like the plague.

The route I described must be good, as the majority of those folks coming from the midwest to the Destin beaches use that route. It's the way I use to go anywhere north.

Thanks, rray,
