Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge
Has anyone been through it? We are heading that way this summer. Other than the closed propane requirements, any other concerns? Are there places to pull over and turn off then on the gas?

Been through a few times. There is a big parking lot on the north end where you can over night. I have never noticed a pull off on the south end but I’m guessing there is one. Watch the weather, particularly for wind. They will stop high profile vehicles when the wind gets above a certain level. Can’t remember the lowest clearance but I’m thinking it’s just under 13’. I’m 12’5” & I fit.

We were in that area last year. The weather was not good - rain and wind. So we opted for another route.

Nice ride on good days. Yes there are propane turn offs spots, right after the tolls.

Tunnels are all 13' 6" clearance. As mentioned north board there's a pull off but not south bound but you'll be in the north end of Va Beach. Lots of places to pull into and turn the gas back on.
If you are south bound check the weather or call ahead before you pass the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis. If the bridge is closed you either wait or drive the 190 miles back to the Bay Bridge. Several camp grounds with in a few miles of the north end of the tunnel if you get hung up with a long closing.

Been through it a number of times. Height is not an issue. Semis go through. Check the weather before going through especially if you are a high profile 5er. It is quite the attraction. From the middle you can hardly see land either way. Southbound there is a visitor center before the toll booths where propane can be turned off. Nowhere to turn it back on at the Virginia Beach end.

great bridge
two lanes each way not really over loaded with traffic, don't worry about weather (unless maybe 40 mph winds)
two tunnels are large and wide, and its like driving in the middle of ocean, no land in sight
35' bounder and towing
maybe 20 trips, we live in Norfolk and camp a couple times a year on the Eastern Shore

No real concerns - Not a problem to pull off and turn of/on the Gas,
Enjoy the drive,

All good information above. Just wanted to add that there is also a truck stop on the southbound side of US13, just before the I64 exit.

south side truck stop
About 5 miles after leaving the toll road. About 1 - 2 miles prior to I-64. They have scales as well.
