Chicago O'Hare to South Bend, IN

Have to leave the RV at home and make a quick trip to South Bend.....Flying into Chicago and renting a car.......Arriving on a Thurs and will prob get out of the airport about 7PM....

What is the best way to get to South Bend considering the day of week/traffic/etc......Not familiar with the area at all......Straight shot through Chicago and I-90 down or a more circuitous route???

option 1: follow I-294 (tolls) south to I-80/94 east. stay on I-80/90 (tolls) to south bend

option 2: follow I-90 east thru the city. I-90 becomes the Chicago Skyway (tolls). take I-80/90 east (tolls) to SB.

either way it’s a 2-hr and change drive. option 2 takes you into the city and i would avoid doing that even on a thursday night.

you’ll have 3 or 4 tolls on 294 and without a transponder it won’t be cheap. tolls on the Skyway also won’t be cheap.

can you fly into Gary instead of o’hare?
