We are in Jackson,WY and want to go to Cody via Yellowstone NP. US 16 seems to be the most direct route, but we've heard that there's lots of construction on it. Has anyone taken the Chief Joseph Hwy? We've heard it is a beautiful drive. Is it a tough road for a 40' MH w/toad?

Any info on routes, etc is appreciated. Thanks!

Usually the roads in Yellowstone have some sort of construction going on somewhere all season. There was construction from Fishing Bridge and out of the park a few years ago when we were there, all the way into Cody as I recall, but I believe most that is finished.
I just ran your route on Rand-Mcnally Trip Maker and had the program do an internet check on construction. It found no construction problems. The road is itself is fine. We came across in a 36 footer towing a Tracker and there was no problems at all.

We just came through there a few weeks ago and had no problems. We were 40 ft and towing a car. It is a beautiful drive. Take your time and enjoy.

We just came the opposite direction from Cody to West Yellowstone a few weeks ago and there was no problem.

We drove from Yellowstone to Jackson in the toad. There was some construction from below West Thumb to the south entrance of Yellowstone, but there were no delays. You will have to drive that section of road no matter which way you end up going after you get into Yellowstone.
