CO 306/209 Buena Vista to Taylor Park?

Has anyone here driven Colorado state Hwy 306/209 from Buena Vista to the Taylor Park Area? I have heard that it is ok, except if it has rained a lot, will be pulling a 33' FW and an ATV trailer behind that.

It's a beautiful drive with a mixture of pavement and gravel. You'll be going to Cottonwood Pass at 12,000'EL so if it's raining at Buena Vista you'll have snow up there. We loved the drive - in good weather. This time of year I don't think I'd take a RV on it but that's just us. Ask around in Buena to find someone who's driven it recently in a RV.

You could also get to Taylor Park from Gunnison - all paved. Good luck!

Thanks twogypsies, we are going in July, went around thru Gunnison last year, but are staying at Mueller state park the night before this trip. wanted to save some miles, plus I had heard it was a beautiful drive.

It is a beautiful drive, and people pull trailers over Cottonwood all the time. There are some nice switchbacks going down into TP. IMO, pulling the trailer, I would go through Gunnison unless you are very comfortable pulling your rig in some less than ideal conditions. (Twisty dirt road with quite a bit of traffic at times)
