The 2nd week of Oct may be a little late for the fall color but every year is different and our weather has been a bit wacky this year. Usually the peak is 3rd or 4th week of September. While I agree with Mel that we don't have Wisconsin or New England variety of colors there are many who appreciate the gold & green against the backdrop of the mountains and deep blue sky. Along the rivers we get reds as well.
The newspapers normally post a color report online that you can just do a Google search for as the time gets closer.
Maroon Bells just west of Aspen is a very popular spot for fall beauty but there are lots of nice areas in the mountains/river valleys. Here are a few shots I took last fall south of Eagle (west of Aspen).
