Agreed! I'd sooner drive in NYC than Boston....at least in NY, much of its on a grid pattern that sort of makes sense. Miss a turn, and you can usually just cruise around the next block. In Boston, nothing is straight, and about the time you think you have it figured out either the road name changes or you come to a dead end 😜

We go thru Alabama to avoid Atlanta. Adds about 90 minutes to our 28 hour drive, but worth it.

I have heard to use the HOV lane straight through Atlanta but have yet to try it.

I lived in and around Atlanta from 1987 until I retired. If you can come through at a non-rush hour time you will probably be ok. (If you don't get stuck in construction.)

The thing about the HOV lanes is the speed. You may be legal to drive in them, but unless you are willing to drive 70+ you could be the object of road rage.

A long time ago, driving in L.A. on weekends was a more pleasant experience. There was less traffic during the weekends. That is not the case anymore. It seems more congested on the weekend than during the week.

My all time least favorite is trying to head south on i35 through Oklahoma City. There is only one lane on the left that exits to go south on I35 toward Texas. If you are not in that exit lane you are just out of luck!!!

Why does it have to be a city? My vote goes for the entire state of West Virginia!
Went through it once and swore never again unfortunately I did it again last year and NOW NEVER AGAIN!

Cliffy, what was it you didn't like about WV? I'm not offended, just curious, it's where I grew up and spent much of my early life.

Just curious also? DW's from WV and we visited her hometown of Beckley, staying at Pipestem state park. The park was beautiful with full hook ups and two high quality golf courses, one 9 hole for us older duffers. Lots of wildlife, fishing etc. Was the issue steep grades?

We took down all the street signs in Boston during the Revolution in order to confuse the Brits, and haven't yet put them all back up.

I've driven in every major metro area in the lower 48, and the worst with the trailer was definitely NYC. Just getting to and from Long Island was challenge as you can't take the parkways due to height issues. The condition of the interstate leading up the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was so bad it broke a water connection in my trailer. The tolls that were over $40 just for two bridges. However, I really like the campground in Old Bethpage that was a 45 minute train ride to Penn Station.

However, as a rule I do avoid major metro areas when possible.
