We're planning a trip to Florence, Alabama for the NCAA DIV II National Championship in a couple of weeks. There always seems to be construction in W. Georgia on I-20 between Atlanta and Birmingham. Anyone traveled that route lately?

TIA!

BigRed1, last went over that route six months ago. Don't remember any construction then. This site, http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/trafficinfo/index.htm will give you state info.

just after talladega they are still reworking I-20 to the Ga line
some places its three lanes some its two, trucks are required to be in the right lanes, some of which are very narrow

also I-20 near jackson MIss has been undergoing construction for over 23 years, last time thru it was better, still very confusing, but the lanes are narrow in spots and very WAVY as is all of I-20 thru MIss and parts of LA. busted a few dishes in october there...

I made the trip. All I can say about I-20 in Western Georgia, eastern Alabama and through Birmingham is that it stinks. This is another of those sections of road that seems to be under constant reconstruction and the parts that haven't been are like riding on a hard dirt road in Baja California. They will jar your teeth out and shake anything loose that's not tied down in your coach.
