Cortez-ALBQ via Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

Route Info:
Comments on the proposed route for Sept 2013. From Cortez, CO. through Durango on US 160 to Pagosa Springs. US 84 to Chama, CO. (for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.) Then from Charma south on US 64 to NM 112 to NM 96 to Cuba, NM. And then on to the Ballon Fiesta in ALQ.

What are the 112/96 roads like to Cuba? We will make Santa Fe as a dray trip from ALQ.

Driving 40’ DP, Honda Odyssey Toad.

Can't help you about the roads but we're basically taking the same trip.... Chama for the train ride in September then Albuquerque Balloon Fest in October! Perhaps we'll see ya on the road.

Look us up at the Chase Tower. We may be able to hook you up with a Pilot and you can be part of his crew. We will be at the fest from 2 - 12 Oct..

Cheers
Norm

Better Route

Haven't been on NM 112 in some time, and last time was on a motorcycle. Don't remember road conditions from that trek. The route I prefer from Chama to Cuba is to go west from Chama on US 64 to Jicarilla (pronounced hick-a-riya) then take NM 537 south to US 550, then through Cuba to I-25 at Bernalillo, just north of Albuquerque.
