Dauphin Island Al to Destin Fl

Hi all. Currently visiting Dauphin Island Alabama. Very beautiful and we highly recommend it. We are at Dauphin Island Campground which is right next to the Ferry dock across Mobile Bay to Fort Morgan. Route to Destin is along Gulf Shores Parkway and rt 98 through Pensacola to Destin. Anyone travelled that route? Any obstacles to motorhome travel? We are in a 25 ft Class C, need 12 ft of overhead clearance. We could take I 10 but that is just boring highway.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Ken

About 6 months ago, I went thru Destin on the way to Foley. There were severe construction delays from Sandestin thru Destin. I used I-10 for the return trip.

No problem with the route for any size RV. Stay away from rush hour in Pensacola, as the bridge gets backed up easily. 11AM to 1:30PM is best.

If you can plan a stop at Pensscola at least for the museum or Blue Angel's practice if possible. Well worth the time.
I would not recommend venturing E of Destin w/o checking first due to hurricane damage.

We traveled AL182 and US98 from Gulf State Park to Grayton SP after Mid Sept (before the hurricane) and it was OK. But there A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION in Fort Walton Beach. No big deal if you aren't sensitive to time but it was real busy.

If you mean AL59 when you say Gulf State Parkway, be aware that there are a ton of lights; and not much to see. I'd suggest taking the Baldwin Beach Express to either US90 or US98 into Pensacola. Your choice unless you want to see the beach along AL182.

And, as another poster mentioned, a stop at the Naval Air Museum in P'cola is worth it. Maybe even stay around there for nite so you can spend a lot of time at the museum. There is RV parking there and YOU HAVE TO ENTER the naval base via the west end; research it and set your GPS accordingly to that gate, otherwise your GPS is going to try to send you to the east side to enter.

Have fun. Enjoy the coast.

thanks

Good info
Very sad to see damage and sorrow east of Destin. A very dear friend has a business in Appalachicola. They made out ok but from Port St Joe to Panama City really bad.
We are booked at Camp Gulf Miramar Beach.
We will for sure take a day trip to Pensacola NAS.
By the way we pretty much get an air show every day with traffic out of Eglin AFB.

Winemaker2 are you a professional winemaker. I just retired from a major wholsale distributor in New England I was in the wine business over 20 years and a chef/restaurateur before that.

Big Lagoon State Park is very close to the west gate of the NAS at Pensacola, good place to spend a night.

Was at Dauphin Island just about three weeks ago. $5 for a same day round trip on the ferry on foot, cheapest/best boat ride going. Got to see Dolphins and then the sunset from the ferry on the last trip of the day. Ferry is vehicle length restricted much of the time due to tides. Only if they are high, will they allow vehicles over 21 ft as the ramp angles at Ft Morgan are pretty steep departing or driving onto the ferry.
