December- Ms to Denver, co

We're thinking about taking RV up to Denver in Late December starting in Ms.. Was wondering if anyone has any cautions or recommendations on the weather in December thru Oklahoma City into Denver.

Is there a particular reason you want to go to Denver in December? You will have a possibility of snow and cold, for sure.

Just don't go to Denver during Stock Show week in Jan!! I recall temp usually dives well below 0 for stock show week.

Be prepared for below 0 temperatures and pray it doesn't get that cold. We spent last November in Denver and December in Colorado Springs. Weather went from fantastic to -10F in about 36-hours. Coach survived just fine but we went through a lot of diesel fuel.

The short answer is that it'll likely be cool, but beyond that you have to just watch the weather. You could easily get into a situation where the roads are closed for a day or two (and if not closed, certainly, unwise for RV travel).

I'd probably come in on the 70 as the 25 runs higher as you go through Colorado Springs and Monument (I think in Monument it's about 7100') whereas if you come in on the 70 Denver itself will be the highest point at 5280 -- and that 6 degrees of air temperature can be the different between an easy drive and an icy one.

And makes sure you are set up for the cold -- one area that can escape thought is the line for an icemaker, which is exposed uninsulated in the area where the fridge vent over is, and can easily freeze up and crack even if everything else is fine.

I would NOT drive through Kansas at that time of year, so stay off I-70. Stay south and watch the weather. Amarillo Texas would be a good staging area, you can come up on 287 to Denver in a day or less weather permitting.

I'd recommended taking nothing but I-10 across. Still, Denver is very iffy.
