Delaware to the Grand Canyon

What is the best time of year to travel to the Grand Canyon and what is the best route to take? From Delaware, weather plays a big factor,

Winter. No crowds and you can drive your own vehicle anywhere in the park. I'm speaking of the south rim. The north rim is closed in the winter.

You can also walk in and get a table, overlooking the canyon, at the El Trevar restaurant.

While winter may be the best time to visit the Grand Canyon, I don't think driving from Delaware in the winter is the best idea. Not uless you went south to Ga and then across. Taking the straight route across W Virginia, Pa, Ohio, etc, if you say weather is a big issue, I would wait at least until March to go and would still make sure you had a weather window without snow or ice. It is not just the best time to visit, but the best time to travel you need to be concerned about.

The south rim is 7000 feet above sea level. It van be extremely cold. I was there about 30 years ago in the winter and I think the high was in the low 30s. The wind can be biting too.

I would go south on I-81 to I-10. Weather on I-40 can be iffy.

I don't know if any RV parks are open around GC during winter. A few phone calls might be worth making.
