Denver to South Fork CO - Best Route

Hi,
We're about to attend an Escapee's get together in South Fork. We'll be coming from ND Southwest. From the Map, it looks as if I25 South from Denver to West 160 is the easiest route. All of our GPS and MapQuest directions take 285 South from Denver even though that is secondary roads for a much greater distance. My question is; is 285 really that much better than 160? Alternately, is 160 a reasonable route (or a scary one)? The passes seem to be comparable.

Secondary road? Well, it's not an Interstate, but 285 is a US highway.

Which way you want to go depends on what your priorities are...speed or sight seeing. I-25/US-160 would certainly be the fastest route, but US-285 would be the most scenic. Personally, I'd take US-285, but that's just me.
