Good road all the way...stays near the river so crooked in spots, no really severe down grades. If you are looking for a way to I-5, US-97 to OR-58 over to Eugene is better road. A lot of trucks use that route to miss the several mountain passes on I-5 in southern Oregon. Destination?

I lived right on 138 for 20 years. Great road and it's beautiful. Go slow and enjoy the scenery. You will have no problems length wise on that road. My friends own the resort at diamond lake. God I miss that place. Hopefully you visited crater lake while you were there.
Lots of little hikes and waterfalls to stop and see on the way. I highly suggest Watson falls and toketee falls. Both short hikes and well worth the time spent
