Diesel fuel for class A with toad I8 near San Diego

We are parking for a month at Mission Bay RV for a month and would like to top off close to the park.
Mission Bay recommended a station but it doesn't even sell deisel.
Any body know of a station along I8 or I5 that is accessible?

Thanks.

The AITA website lists the Valero station at 1203 Tavern Road in Alpine, CA as a place that sells diesel ... it is at exit 30 of I-8 ...

I used Google Maps and it looks like there is plenty of room to get in there with your toad attached ... and you can see the green filler on the pumps.

Personally, I always fill at the Flying J in Yuma, AZ before entering CA ... I avoid buying fuel in CA unless it is absolutely necessary ... my wife refuses to push ...

Try the app "AllStays Truck and RV". It shows truck stops, Wallmart , camp grounds, truck repair, etc. in any general locatin you chose. Type in a city and state an a map will show the locatin of those amenities.

I have been digging around on gas buddy for hours and then checking with street views and getting nowhere. None of them look accessible.

Curious why you feel the need to top off? I filled up in Yuma and still have 80 gallons left here in Chula Vista. Driving to Vegas today and will still have almost 40 gallons left when we get there.

There is a truck stop in National City just north of chula vista. Not sure where else around here. Most gas stations are pretty tight. Maybe call a class A dealer in the area and ask the service desk where is a good place to fill up.

I live in the area, and as has been mentioned, most stations are pretty tight. There may be some, but one doesn't come to mind at the moment.

If you are wanting to top off with toad connected and traveling west bound on I-8 into San Diego from the east (you mentioned filling up in Yuma), just after you clear the hill coming up from the desert floor, there is Acorn Casino (1800 Golden Acorn Way, Boulevard, CA 91905). This has a truck fueling station. From there it isn't that far on to your destination in Mission Bay.

If you are traveling westbound on I-10 there are both Pilot and Flying J's just west of Indio. If you want to stretch it further and get closer to your destination, there is a nice high velocity fuel station at the Pechanga Casino/RV Resort. The RV campground is very nice. If you are a golfer, the attached golf course "Journey" is spectacular.

Hope that you enjoy your time in the area. Plenty to see and do. If you have specific questions, feel free to pm me. I will do my best to answer them.

Jerry

I will 2nd the Valero in Alpine. Easy on and off the freeway, room to maneuver in the station and downhill all the way to the beach. You will have plenty of fuel left when you get to Mission Bay.

Closest may be "Socal Truck Stop", 2250 Tidelands Ave., National City. The YELP listing says they are closed on Sunday. Easy access from I-5 via Bay Marina Dr., exit 10, then turn toward the water. We have always had good fuel here. We have also weighed our rig here. Small store but nothing fancy.

We have a 40', and tow our CRV. At the end of each trip, as we come into San Diego, I fill up at the Chevron on corner of Balboa Blvd and Mercury, off os I163.

I8 W to 163N to Balboa (It's the first exit after I805 splits off, so stay in the right lane. Once you come off the freeway, turn right at the light, then right at the next right which is Balboa Ave. It takes you back over the I163 freeway, and the Chevron is to your right. Pull into the station off of Balboa. Pull in past the mini mart, and take the pumps just after you pass the mini mart (You will go over the fuel tank fill covers, and see the car wash to your right. Either Left or Right side of the first lane of pumps will work.)). Coming out of the station is a hard right, then right again back onto the freeway to get 163S then to I8W to I5N to Clairemont Dr. Left over the I5 freeway until you hit the stop sign. The right along Mission Bay unit you work your way over to the RV park next to the Golf Course.

(Pre drive this on Google Maps, and I hope you will see what I mean. The pulling into the Chevron is not a problem, getting out with the hard right, then right, sometimes means waiting for a break in the traffic pattern. But it is my normal fueling station for diesel in San Diego. Oh, and by the way. We're just above Mission Bay, in the Bay Park area, and can see the RV Park from our 'vacation home' - so know the area well. Have a blast!!!)

Best,
Smitty

To minimize condensation in the tank while parked in the higher humidity area .
