Diesel Fuel in Michigan?

I will be heading from Muskegon, MI to Mackinac Island and then back down to Port Huron. There are very few truck stops along that route for diesel.

Where are the big name truck stops at? There are a few around Saginaw, but nothing North of Saginaw.

Where can I get diesel along this route?

We travel to MI and WI every summer and, much like you, discovered there arenít any Pilots or Loves (or TAs or Petros) north of a certain latitude in both states. You will find that many of the Shellís, Citgos and other brands in both states have truck lanes. There are lots of accessible diesel locations, just not the major name ones.

We use Trucker Path to find truck stop diesel when we canít find any of the majors. Iím sure there are other apps that will also lead you to diesel.

I rarely go to the truck stops because they tend to be more expensive. I go to regular service stations. We keep an eye out for an easy approach with an end lane empty. There are more and more truck/RV lanes too.

suggest you get the Trucker Path app (free). it has GPS functionality and shows truck stops along your path or near you.

Diesel

There are several fuel stops between Saginaw and the bridge. Most have 5-10 truck parking spaces and 2-4 truck pumps. They are not national (FJ/P) but have good fuel.

Is the Truckers Path kept up to date? I noticed it had rest areas on the map also and I would need some of these.

FWIW, the last Trucker Path update for my iPad was Aug 10.

Use Gas Buddy App. Why use a truck stop and pay 40-50 cents more a gallon when you can find plenty of diesel off the major interstates.

My experience is that Gas Buddy doesn't indicate whether a station is big enough to handle my motorhome with toad. What's your secret?

On interstates, I use the app "iExit Trucks" and filter on diesel fuel. It also shows Rest Areas and "Truck Parking" areas. I prefer going to truck stops, because I KNOW that I will NOT have any problem maneuvering my class C with toad (total 44' length). That worth the extra few cents). The truckers don't mind, just be courteous and pull ahead when you're done filling up. With P/FJ, I can pay at the pump and get the 8 cent/gallon Good Sam discount. My next choice is Love's (and they are installing more with RV lanes), although you have to pre-authorize inside, before you pump.

Non-interstates, after searching with Gas Buddy, I use Google maps Satellite View to zoom in on the station to see if there is room to maneuver a 26' class C with a toad.

In the WI, MN,ND, SD and other areas, there are many Holiday Station Stores, Cenex, Kwik-Trip and Casey's stations with plenty of room for a RV with toad. In some places, I have found Citgo and Sunoco with diesel islands for trucks.

Generally when starting out the day, I know about where we'll be when the gauge hits 1/4 and how many miles up the road we'll be from the current stop and then kinda get an idea of what's available in the area, using iExit Trucks or Gas Buddy.

Some trips we have repeated so many times, I know the usual places to stop for fuel are safe bets.

If you hit the directions tab for the station it brings up Google Maps. Bring up the Satellite view as opposed the default view.
Use this all the time. Preplanning other ventures as well.
