Fl. to Tn.
Looking for the best route to take for our first trip. we are planning on going from Ft Myers to Nashville then on to Memphis & then to Destin, Fl & back home. We have ten days & would like to spend at least two days at each place. I think I read somewhere to avoid I24. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IMHO there is no reason to avoid I-24, but this route will avoid it. Take I-75 north to I-10. I-10 west to exit 130, US-231 north thru Dothan AL to Montgomery AL. I-65 north to Nashville.

Sure hope the road construction in Birmingham is finished when you come through there on I65. We came home from FL in 2011 and the roads through B'ham was some of the worst I have ever seen! You had to go really slow and the construction vehicles were flying low. Maybe finished by now though.
If all else fails, I75 north to Chattanooga, 111 to I40 then west to Nashville - Memphis.

agreed
after living in Jacksonville and Huntsville Alabama
that is the best route
231 isnt bad and it has many places to spend the night

There is one BIG reason to avoid going to I24, ATLANTA... straight thru, or the bypass will take hours. People there drive way too fast, way too many accidents, stopping traffic for hours. Head west on I 10 as explained above, 231 is a really nice route. Came thru Birmingham in March, raining like crazy, but traffic kept going. Construction was no problem.
Head west out of Nashville on I 40 to Memphis.. If you have time, go back East a tad, to Shiloh, then Corinth Miss. Civil war sites are really worth it. You could even pick up the Natchez Trace heading south to Natchez, then head towards Destin, Fl.
