Florida to Alaska

I have a 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 ldr gas pickup truck.
I will be pulling a 34 ft "Nu Wa" sno bird. 5th wheel.
The truck and trailer has been a pair since new.
The truck has 90,000 miles and is in great shape. I am
certain that I have done the proper maintenance and have
replaced key parts on the truck with new tires on truck and
trailer.
I will be leaving the truck and trailer in Alaska so I only have to go one way.
I plan on leaving florida follow I-10 to New Orleans and go straight up from
there to Canada. Hopefully skipping alot of mountains.
The trailer weighs approx 11,000 lbs.
I did a dry run of about 400 miles last week. As I have never pulled a 5th wheel before. Seemed like the truck was working very hard but its all new to me.
If anyone has any advice for me it would be appreciated.
What can I expect on the alaskan highway as far as this truck being able to
pull this trailer? Has anyone pulled to alaska with similar set ups. Thanks

By Gosh Now THAT, IS A TRIP even if it is one way.
Yes the gas pickups do feel the extra weight of a towing load.
how are you avoiding the mountains? going the southern route? I-40 isn't all that bad till flagstaff. Just take it easy and watch your gauges.

I went up to Winnipeg and then across Canada. I only recall one real steep grade down and up from a river crossing past Dawson Creek someplace.



Also, gas was more expensive in Canada.

Get a copy of the Milepost for travel tips along the way. The highway is paved, but be aware of frost heaves, normally well marked.

We are on our way to Alaska right now and yesterday we experienced a 9% grade for 6.5 miles and the same down on the Alaska Highway. Would not be great using an underpowered tow vehicle or RV.
