Anyone take US 98 on this route. WE are thinking of stopping at Ho Hum in Carabelle for a few days. Any comments?

Took 98 from Destin to Carrabelle last fall. Stayed at Carrabelle Beach RV Resort, a few miles West of Ho Hum. Really liked the RV park, not on the beach but a short walk across 98 to the beach. Stop in Apalachicola, FL, nice town with a lot of history. Great seafood and the best oysters anywhere. This area is the Florida I remember 60 years ago.

We took 98 to Carrabelle, [from Bradenton, Fl]. where we stayed at Ho Hum. Great place. Good Sam discount came to less then $29.00/night. Nice pier, watched dolphins swimming. Lot to do around there too.. Then we went to Fort pickens, and then to Folley. All nice roads, easy driving. Nice scenery. 98 is a great road..

We love HoHum. Haven't been there for a few years. First time there, it was supposed to be for 2 nights, it turned into 2 weeks. The next time we went for a month. We like to get a spot on the water with our windshield facing the rising sun. Keep in mind that it is not a "resort". No pool, no playground, no shuffle board courts. Just a nice place to hang out and be lazy. If you like oysters, go to "The Funky Oyster Shack" in Carrabelle. St Marks NWR is a few miles away. In Panacea theres a great fresh seafood store where the fish is fresh off the boat, they clean it while you watch. And don't miss Sopchoppy, a really Old Florida town nearby.

Watched the sunrise out the windshield this morning with all the shore birds having breakfast as the tide went out. Going to visit a couple of nearby lighthouses today. I have hundreds of them pictured in my computer from when we traveled for 4 years aboard our trawler. Anchored out on the backside of Dog Island after taking 19 hours to cross the Gulf and only saw the inside of my eyelids! Nice spot! Today the water is flat as a mirror.

Dog Island...Remember back in the eighties trying to land a C182 there. Did two go arounds and stuck it on the third.

Wasn't too bad, but with three people screaming at the top of their lungs, well that was distracting to say the least. They no longer know me ??

Just be aware that hwy. 98 is an almost continuous string of towns with one stop light after the next. the drive will take a lot longer than you think it will. Even though it is longer, you might consider cutting east on I10 and then south on any of several possible roads.

We drove the same route last year. It is a slow drive but worth it in my opinion.

We're at Ho-Hum right now just in time for the first gale/rain event of the season. It's great to be back home in North Florida!

Have stayed at HoHum several times. Love that part of Florida.
We stayed at St George Island State Park for 2 months (only way to stay that long is to volunteer ;-) Love it there. Beautiful park and largely unknown.
