From Yosemite Valley floor to Groveland

We've asked Park Rangers, and been told "OK" to drive from the Yosemite Floor to Groveland with a 40' RV. They said the clearance going 'Up/West' to Groveland, was over 13 1/2' at the curb.

However, two or three campers I've talked with, said that they were told by others (so second hand info) that the Big Oak Flat Road had 'Height Restrictions' of just over 10'.

So, now I have a DW that is saying she is nervous about heading up to Groveland with the RV.

How about it, is the run West/Up from the Valley Floor to Groveland, via Big Oak Flat Road - doable in a 40' with 12' 8" of height?

Sorry, to ask this basic question. But have very poor internet connection, and wanted to get some straight information. (Suppose I should trust the Rangers!).

TIA,
Smitty

Here's the road information and clearances from the official Yosemite web site:

Vehicle Restrictions - Yosemite National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Safe travels!

In this instance, trust the rangers. From the Yosemite NP website:

Big Oak Flat Road (Highway 120)
Maximum vehicle length: 45 feet for single vehicle.
Height restrictions: tunnels, into Yosemite Valley: 10 feet 3 inches; from Yosemite Valley, 13 feet 8 inches (the height of the tunnel at the white fogline is higher and full sized tour buses are able to drive through the tunnel while remaining in their lane).

(Emphasis added.) As you are coming "from" the valley floor to Groveland, you would be subject to 13'. Others have written on these forums that they had no problems even with the 10' restrictions going into the valley but ...

I don't know what your plans are after Groveland, so just a side note: After Groveland (if you continue west on 120), use low gears as advised when descending the grade down to Highway 49. Also, Highway 49 south of 120 towards Mariposa (Coulterville area) is a miserable winding road that I won't even drive (having done so once), in a car.

Zero problems running this way. Well maybe other then a few rental cars riding the yellow line (and over) in some of the tighter curves~!

On the tunnels, I was crowding the yellow line myself, and was lucky to only meet one Class C in one of the tunnels. A rental, and he had the mirrors out extended as far as they could go. I came to a complete stop (no one behind us) - and he blew by with 2-3" between our mirrors. At the last moment, he seemed to get the caught in the headlight looks to his eyes - when he realized how close we were! Suspect he is now watching his mirrors extensions a bit more!

And no worries to going West on 120, we'll be heading East out over Ticonderoga Pass, and have done that before.

Thanks for quick input on backing the Rangers - made the DW a bit more comfortable...
