Ft Worth, TX to Coeur d' Alene ID

We are leaving for Coeur d' Alene, ID (CDA) the last of May or first of June. Spending a couple of weeks there and then on to Oregon. Our neighbor has warned us about extremely high crosswinds in WY but checking what information I can find it seems that the average wind speed for June is around 10-15 mph. He is advising us to take a more Southerly route through NM up to Boise, through Oregon and then East to CDA. This would add about 240 miles and maybe one or two extra nights on the road. We would go the Southern route but we can find better stops based on the number of miles we like to drive per day (250) going the more direct route. Not a big deal either way but the possibility of having to set out high winds for a day or two would certainly be a deciding point. Comments as to route, winds and places to stay will be greatly appreciated.

Get the RV Parks and Campgrounds guide,
by mail if you can. Very handy, I wish all states followed this format:

https://visitidaho.org/explore-idaho...-publications/

If you can, head up ID 75 thru Ketchum (Sun Valley) and camp at Redfish Lake or thereabouts. Classic mountain scenery!

I helped an old friend move back to Missoula MT (160 miles from coeu d'alene) from Louisiana driving a uhaul truck a few couple of years ago, we passed by Ft Worth on the way. Our route mostly avoided major cities, we actually skirted Ft Worth through Weatherford and mostly avoided high winds, except for a scary looking storm system in eastern Colorado (dark purple skies, tumble weeds and debris blowing across the road in mid day, ...).

Our route was 287 from the DFW area, through Wichita Falls, through Amarillo and on up all the way to Limon, CO, we then skirted around Denver, and got on I-25 all the way to Buffalo WY where it merged with I-90, then I-90 all the way into Missoula.

Overall it was a good route, a lot was on 2 lane highways, but most had very light traffic, lots of nothing, I don't think there was a single town over about five thousand people in the nearly 400 miles between Amarillo and Denver, and only a handful of those.

You can run into high winds anywhere. I traveled across WY on I-80 several times and never been bothered by high winds. If you are concerned get a good weather app for your phone and keep tabs on wind alerts.

I can't speak to the weather, but in fall of 2015 we went this way starting from Salina, KS (you would take I-35 up to there) and enjoyed it.
I-70 west to US-183 north to I-80 west to US-126 at Ogallala, to I-25 north, to I-90 into Coeur d'Alene
