Furrion NV2200 GPS Navagation System

Hello fellow RV Travelers.

Our 2016 Class C Coachman Leprechaun came equipped with a Furrion Navigation GPS system, absent the Map Card.

After paying $200.00 more or less from Amazon I received the NV2200 Map SD Card.

1. The card is two fold. The SD Card adapter, with a small (fingernail size) chip that fits inside the adapter for use in a PC/Laptop computer slot. The small chip is inserted into the NV2200.

2. The card arrived with a host of instructions, non of which tell you what to do first to get the Navigation system to function.

3. So.....first take the small chip and place it into the NV2200 slot located on the lower left side of the device. Locate RV in a place to receive satellite signals, and turn on the "NAV" portion of the NV2200.

4. Remember the little chip is essentially "dumb" at this point, so a few of the menu items will pop up. Fill in those items on the screen that you know, and turn off the NV2200, and remove the little chip. Such as language, RV weight.

Turn off the NV2200, move the small chip and follow the #5 directions.

5. Insert the little chip into the larger Map SD Adapter card. Insert this into a PC/Laptop. You will have to log onto a website www.naviextras.com. Remember that nowhere on the written instructions sent with the SD card is this site given.

IT IS HIGHLY SUGGESTED THAT YOU MAKE A BACKUP OF THIS CHIP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE. THAT PROVISION IS IN THE NEXT STEP. REMEMBER IF YOU MESS UP THE DATA (EVEN WITH THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF DATA ON THE CHIP AT THIS TIME) YOU RISK LOSEING AND RUINING THE DATA.

6. After going to www.naviextras.com You will have to load the Navi Toolbox program unto your computer in order to download the FREE (only once). You will also be able to register to receive future updates at a fee, and be notified when they are available.

7. Read each menu carefully, and complete as well as you are able. You can also go back and change those variables.

8. Depending upon which geographical areas you choose, the download can take one hour or more.

9. When you have downloaded the FREE updates BACKUP the Chip again. Now you have a fully loaded Chip to insert into your NV2200.

10. Go back to your RV and insert the updated "smart" chip back into NV2200, and you will see a significant difference. Menu options are expanded, map directions actually work, and a host of other functions are added.

11. Interestingly, I emailed Tech support at Furrion.com and asked about directions on doing the above. The reply from Furrion was "as you are purchasing a new data disc no update is necessary". Furrion better do a better job at training their personnel, because that response is inexcusable. The GPS unit is essentially unusable without the update. Go figure.

12. I am still new to this NV2200 and working to fully implement. At this point it's a toss up as to whether or not I should have just purchased a Garmin 770, or similar. Will keep you posted if anyone is interested.

I have tried to convey as best I can on starting the Furrion NV2200. If I have failed by not giving the best instruction it is my fault alone. Anyone having additional or more accurate information please post.

Respectfully,
Tony and Dianne - Vegas

Send the chip back for credit and buy a Garmin. In addition to being much easier to use and see, it will do many more things for you.

Plus you can move it to another vehicle when needed.

I know my reply is late. I agree, don't waste your money on the NV2200 software. I am on my third one, chip that is. I have been using the NV2200 for over 6 years and have replaced the chip three times. They go out about every 2 to 3 years. They seem to always fail in the middle of a trip. The chip stops booting up when I turn on the system I get fatal errors. Product support is hopeless, both with Furrion and naviextras. After buying three I had enough. The only reason I am answering so late is because I feel the history of the product is worth documenting.

I would be happy to store an off-site backup copy for you. I can send you an SD card to make the backup copy. Then just mail it back to me. That way you'll always have a back up copy.
