GA-IL must see/do?

We will take a month and go from GA to Northern IL in Mid April. We enjoy parks with rivers or lakes for kayaking and hiking. Looking for other activities that may be worth taking in. Military is sending me to Great Lakes for two years so hope to hit WI and O'Can while there.

If you follow 75 and 24, then take a look at the riverfront and aquarium in Chattanooga. Of course there is always Rock City - that was advertised on thousands of barn roofs when I was a kid.
In Metropolis, Ill there is the gambling riverboats and the Superman Statue.

Ft. Masic State Park is in Metropolis, too. They do have camping. If you have a chance, you can stop by Evansville, Indiana and visit the local zoo. Not a big zoo, but a nice way to spend a day. The river walk is also nice in Evansville.

If you come up I-57, Quality Times RV Park in Mt. Vernon is nice, and has full hookups. If you are more into state parks, then south of Mt. Vernon is Benton, IL, which has Wayne Fitzgerald State Park, which is really nice. On I-57 and I-70 is Effingham, IL, which has Camp Lakewood. Another nice place with full hook-ups. If you stop by, tell Brian or Vanessa Grumpy say hay. Don't forget to say hay to Toby, the bird. On north, in Champaign, there is a small campround just off of Market street. Very easy access to the interstate. They have all hook-ups except cable TV. I don't know how to plan go to around, or through Chicago, however, the new I-355 toll road is done on the west side. Keeps you away from a lot of traffic. There is also a state park in Kankakee.

Good Luck on your travels.

When you pass by Champaign/Urbana, wave.
