We are heading to CA in a few days and heard that I-40 in OK is bad. What are the roads that parallel I-40 that are nice 2 lane roads? Are there any other bad spots of I-40 and what would be the ways around it?
We are heading for New Mexico and I-40 is the most direct route.

Tom;
I cannot speak for any roads that might parallel I-40, but I just spoke to a friend of mine who is currently at Page AZ and he said that I-40 was not too bad but that the construction in OKC was bad, that he used I240/I44 to bypass most of the city and he just breezed right thru. Hope this helps.

Bob

Just came from CA on 40 to McAlester, ok
I 40 has some construction and bad road's in OK but nothing like we ran into in NM seems like 50% under construction and most of the rest needs it. One section of west bound I40 west of Grants was the worst road I have ever driven on and i live on a dirt road. it shook us so bad i had to slow down to 30 just to keep the coach from falling apart

We finally arrived in CA and want to thank those that replied to my question. The only problem we found with I-40 was in OK and we used OK-9, OK 37 & OK 152. THe rest of I-40 was Ok and there was construction in NM.Again thanks to all and safe travels.
