We have to travel to Camp Newmar (Nappanee, IN) in early April. We will be in Tallulah Falls, GA (far NE corner of GA near NC.)

Does anyone have a suggestion as to "best route?"

Our current plan is to get from N. GA to I-24 in Chattanooga, TN to I-65 in Nashville all the way to Indianapolis, where we pick up US 31 N to US 6 E to Nappanee.

Our only problem with this route is the best way of getting from Tallulah Falls to Chattanooga. There doesn't seem to be a good way to get "from here to there" without going way south then west to I-75N or north to US 64W then SW to Chattanooga. If that seems strange to you, then just look at a map of N. GA.

Any advice you have will be appreciated!

You are close to the shortest (in miles) route. Head south on US441 to Clarkesville/Cornelia area. Instead of getting off the 4 lane and continuing south, stay on the 4 lane to Gainesville. I believe that is 23. Exit into Gainesville and take the Browns Bridge Road to Hiway 53. Follow 53 through Dawsonville, Tate and end up near Calhoun on I-75 south of the I-24 intersection at Chattanooga by about 45 miles. 53 is an OK route, albeit a bit curvy in places and it passes through several small towns. Beats traveling through Atlanta during rush hour.

I love getting direction replies from "lawmen!" They ALWAYS know the best routes. BTW I've sent a PM to you for more info and some questions.

US-76 is a good road. We are just south of Chattanooga and this is the route I take into the northeast Georgia. US 76 will put you onto I-75 at Dalton GA, 20 miles south of I-24. From Blairsville to Ellijay is 4 lane, as is from Chatsworth to I-75
