Heading to Martinsville Va at the end of Oct for the NASCAR race,
Leaving from Ontario Canada through Buffalo NY, and looking for the flatest route and any info regarding this trip.
All info is greatly appreciated

Thanks
John

Head towards I-81, possibly on I-90 at Syracuse which is easiest, but is a fairly expensive section of road. Follow I-81 to Roanoke, I-581/US220. Staying on US220 and it will take you right into Martinsville. As far as level - that's about as good as it gets. It is a major truck route, and follows the Shenandoah Valley. 220 out of Roanoke to Rocky Mount is quite hilly, but only about 20 or so miles but I had no problem hauling my 11,00 pound 5er that way.

As a recommendation - and if you try another route to connect via NY 17 to I-81, be advised that NY17 makes a corn cob look smooth (or at least it did 2-3 years ago)

(Hmmm - we need to go to Rocky Mount in October and Martinsville is only 25 miles away ...... race .... hmm, but Oct 30 is too late)

Good advice given. However you get to I-81, exit at I-581 in Roanoke. 581 turns into US 220. 220 is all four lane road but it does have some hills and curves. No problem for your rig.

Enjoy the race and Virginia hospitality. Lot's of paint swapping goes on at Martinsville .

I-581 exits from the left lane. Once you get past the scales south of exit 150 on I-81 it's 3 or 4 miles to 581. Once on 581 stay in the middle lane. Avoids all the merging and in two or three places the right lane is an exit only lane. Once you get thru the signal at the south end of 581 the Blue Ridge Parkway is at the top of the hill. Another mile or two and traffic thins out a lot.

I-581 has a strictly enforced 55 mph speed limit and Boone's Mill south of Roanoke is a well known speed trap.

Boone's Mill (I-581 has changed to Rt 220 once you leave the strip mall area going out of Roanoke and past the new Wal-Mart) - and speed traps from both directions and to make life interesting, there is a traffic light with a fast yellow

Dave's correct. 581 ends at Tanglewood Mall (rt 419). Boone's Mill is 15-20 miles south. Bad wording on my part.
