Girard PA to Little Rock AR - I71

How are the road conditions on I 71 south from Cleveland OH to Louisville KY? Google is routing us through Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnatti and Louisville, which is the fastest. We're more concerned with road conditions, even if it means travelling a little farther.

We traveled from Indy to Erie, PA in July going around Columbus on 270. Roads we’re in pretty good shape with the exception of I-70 through Indiana. There were some potholes in Ohio that may be patched by now in preparation for winter. There were some rough patches on 271 north of Columbus but not too bad as long as you are careful and slow down a bit.

I went drove from Pittsburgh area to Texarkana, tx at the beginning on this past July. The interstates between Columbus and Memphis weren't that bad. As soon as we got the Arkansas side of Memphis the interstate went to crap. Rough roads and potholes everywhere in the right lane. And the 18 wheeler traffic was terrible.

We'll be travelling that section of I 40 for approximately 75 miles! You didn't find 71 S through Ohio to be too bad? This past April, we encountered some really huge potholes all the way through Ohio on 71 South, maybe they've completed the repairs by now.

Just traveled I-71 and I-271 northbound from Cincinnati to connect with I-90 Eastbound thru PA. A lot of work has been done on I-71 both directions in the last couple of years and it's generally in good condition. Going over the Ohio River at Cincinnati on the I-71/I-75 bridge can be problematic due to congestion, so try to time it for mid-morning or mid-afternoon if you can to minimize delays. I-71 SB from Cincy to Louisville is also OK with lots of rolling hills. It's 2-lanes nearly the entire way, but with quite a bit of truck traffic. That shouldn't matter too much to you except when you get behind a truck with a heavy load on one of the steeper hills. If it were me, I would not avoid this routing. It's the shortest driving distance and a decent choice in terms of road conditions.
