We recently went through there. Lots of construction but had no problem getting through. We turned south towards Springfield.

I always go thru St Louis mid day. Never at rush( parking lot) hours. Same for most major cities. Gotta plan ahead.

From Southern Illinois, and will never take I70. Always 255 to 270 to 370, and rejoin 70 at St Peters exit. Only takes one time with a semi/car accident making me 2hrs late and a missed flight, to sour me on 70 thru downtown.

I just came from Louisville to KC through St. Louis (64 east to I70 west) 5/19 and I was pleasantly surprised how uneventful is was.

We just came through St Louis (both directions) on 6/2 & 6/3... west bound we diverted to the north due to an accident that had 64 very slow... returning east bound straight on through 64. Construction wasn't bad. Traffic was OK, but it was a weekend.

That is the way we usually do it also, going east or west to stay on 70.

We've also gone through directly on 70, but I prefer the above.

We have also gone through going east to 64 a few times which wasn't much of a problem.

I think time of day and related traffic is the biggest obstacle in any city, as previously mentioned. I've never been patient enough to wait, so we take what we get and have survived so far.
