greetings from Whitehorse

We crossed into Coutts, AB about May 5. We were cold in the Banff, Kootenay and yoho National Parks. Currently dry, highs 72 F and lows 45. Mostly sunny.

Come on up.

Gasoline is 1.37 per liter or about $5.19 a gallon Canadian money. My credit card charges on international fee but charges the exchange rate and it has been costing about 2% more.

Groceries are expensive, well it is all expensive. We are saving $$ by dry camping in rest areas or for $12 in provicial parks. The parks are pretting and the campsites are good. Maybe no water, probably no dump station.

My versizon phone does great in Canada as I added canada to my US plan for $20 a month plus taxes. But not in the Yukon. Local yukon cell provider has a monopoly right now. The exception is Whitehorse where it works fine.

Full service campgrounds are $35-40.

Alaska by July 1.

Anyone else around? I'm between Soldotna and Homer, dug clams yesterday and headed to the spit today. weather has been great with the rain shwer now and then as we got to the coastal areas. Will spend two or three days in Homer then move on back up the coast a little at a time and hope to hit Denali about the 15th or so.

Not anywhere near there, but if your looking for some good cooking, try the Country Boy Campground in Ninilchik. The owner is a friend of the tail gunners we had on our trip in '08. We stopped twice, going and coming from Homer. Great food.

still in Yukon

We leave Whitehorse today for Dawson City tomorrow. I plan to be in Fairbanks in less than 3 weeks because I will need prescriptions refilled. Anyway, Dawson City, then Inuvik, then Chicken AK. Kind of anxious to return to the good ol' USA even though we love Canadians.

Happy travels
