What a revoltin' development!!!

Arrived today in St. Mary at east end of Glacier Nat'l Park. Found out at the ranger station that Logan Pass is closed due to a landslide.

GTS Road is open 29 miles from the west entrance to Big Bend (near the Weeping Wall), and 14 miles from the St. Mary entrance to Jackson Glacier Overlook.

According to the on-duty park ranger at the visitor center information desk there is no estimated date of the road opening.

We visited in '07 and had a bus tour but wanted to do the GTS Road in our own vehicle and stop whenever we wanted. Guess we'll go to Plan B.

as of 8:55PM Mountain Time on 6-21-2009 Currently 41.5 miles of the Going-to-the-Sun Road are open for travel.
Visitors can drive 28.0 miles from the West Entrance to Big Bend, and 13.5 miles from the St. Mary Entrance to Jackson Glacier Overlook.
The section of the road between Big Bend and Jackson Glacier Overlook is closed due to snow plowing operations. Hiker/biker access on the west side is allowed to Triple Arches, approximately 1 mile past the vehicle closure. On the east side, hiker/biker access is allowed to Siyeh Bend, approximately 2 miles past the vehicle closure.

While the NPS website for Glacier NP says the road is closed for plowing, the ranger at the east entrance gate showed us a photo of a large rock slide in the Logan Pass area.

We were Out There last week, The Ranger Station Told Us It Would Be Open as Of Today July1st.
