Thank you!!!

I am overwhelmed with the responses to my questions. I will check out each suggestion as I plan my trip. The black flies also invade the Adirondacks in upstate NY during June and maybe early July. I will prepare for them. I didn't know they were in the UP. Thanks,
Roy

Another route that may be of interest is to cross into Canada and travel up the East side of Lake Huron. UP C400 to C17. Both are good roads. You will travel thru a few little towns and some great areas. You would cross into the UP at Sault Saint Marie.

We love the UP! Suggest another option. Go through Canada, and up the Bruce peninsula. Check out the towns along the way, stay a night at Cyprus Lakes CG, hike to the Grotto, a day or two in Tobermory (Sweet Shoppe and Flowerpot Island), then take the Ferry across thru the Manitoulin Islands and come into the UP from the east end. Glass bottom boat tours over shipwrecks. Agree with other choices already given, and more! Enjoy!

Also Pictured Rocks national lake shower.. Now I like to park at the east end (Grand Maris) where there is a lovely little city park right on the lakeshore. but you need to take a boat ride to see the rocks, and that leaves from the west end.

Don't miss Canyon Falls on the Sturgeon River off US-41 South of L'anse, and the Keewenaw Peninsula: Eagle Harbor, Copper Harbor. Add a couple weeks to your stay and come back down the West side of the Lower Peninsula, Michigan's Gold Coast. Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore was Good Morning America's "Most Beautiful Travel Destination in the USA" in 2012.

[QUOTE=emiddleb;1944733]UP Black flies aren't that bad... usually takes 6 or 7 to carry off a small dog . Don't try shooting them with a .22 though; it just annoys them.

That's funny!

If you choose to come thru stateside there's a nice state park outside of Toledo. Maumee State Park. Another as you enter MI is Sterling State Park. Both are off of Lake Erie.
