I've traveled as late as the first week of November and as early as mid April.

For scenery/wildlife travel late may to early September.

The road is smoother and has lest dust/dirt during the winter months as the snow fills the holes and covers the dust and dirt.

Finding water is difficult in the winter, late fall and early spring.

Most CGs are open by May and close around mid September.

The Milepost is essential. Church's book is also a great resource. You do not need the latest copy of The Milepost. Spend time learning the layout of the Milepost before you hit the ALCAN

We are planning a trip to Canada late July. Any special rules I need to know pulling a 30 ft travel. Any restrictions on food or normal camping stuff? Already know the normal restrictions as far as firearms and documentation. Any help would be appreciated.

In all my crossings, going to and from Alaska, I have never had the Canadian Customs Agents enter the RV. The US Agents have entered twice to specifically check for fruits, veggies and dog food. A 3rd time they only wanted to look in the basement.

The Canadains typically ask me about fruit, veggies, cigarettes and alcohol. Apparently I look like a healthy chain smoking alcoholic.

Another thing they will ask about is firewood. Same as when we enter the US. Not allowed to take it across the line. Each person of legal age (depends on province, 18 or 19) can bring a 40 oz of booze, carton of smokes, pouch of tobbaco, 5 containers of chew, and 50 cigars. No fresh citrus.

I should have read that link before i opened my mouth. They got alot of stuff you cant take into canada..crazy..they must not really like us...haha

The US border control checks the dog food for lamb/mutton content. One of the products we are not allowed to bring into the US from Canada.

As a seasoned cross border camper

Dog food is fine as long as its in original package
All meat is fine except lamb
No citrus fruit
No peppers
Firewood as long as no visible bark ( we bring kiln. Dried 2x6 cuttoffs from a local pallet supply place)

Are you sure about the fire wood ?I thought it was processed wood only ,
like the 2x4 cut offs .same going into the US.

Yup just can't have bark that being said I don't test them and bring the kiln dried, generally after waiting for an hour in the border line up, I don't feel like waiting another hour for the rubber glove treatment, they will let you leave with it they are just required to inspect it
