Goshen NY to Bar Harbor

Heading up to Bar Harbor, Picking up Son and Daughter-in-law in Goshen. My 2 choices seem to be 84 to 495 to 95 or 84 to 87 up to 90 across to 495 to 95.

First is a little shorter but last time (a few years ago) 84 was a real skull shaker!

Anyone know if its any better or does it still rattle your fillings?

Grizz1-

Of the options you listed, 84 to 87 to 912M (Mass Pike Extension) to 90 (Mass Pike) to 495 to 95 would be my choice.

I gave up on 84 in Connecticut last year.

We used to live in Otisville and would go I/84 to I/90 (Mass Pike) to I/495 to I/95 and getting over to US 1. You can go around Hartford by taking I/691 to I/91 to CT 15 back onto I/84 (it's easier than it looks)

Thanks!

Yes I have traveled the I/691 to I/91 to CT 15 back onto I/84 route before and your right it is easy, its just from my memory 84 is/was in bad shape.

Might be a game time decision. But I'm leaning the northern route.

You would by-pass a bunch of toll on I-87 and I-90 using I-84. On the I-84 route, Waterbury is in goat-path shape. The rest is a toss up vs I-90 in Mass.

We just did Bar Harbor so the I-495MA/I-95 to Bangor route was fine. Generally I do the I-95 instead of I-295 bypass and go around Portland ME (5 miles more), less traffic. There is a bit of construction in the Portland area.

Also the time of day will dictate traffic especially at MA/NH/ME borders and Hartford.

Hopefully you have an EZ-Pass. No more toll takers in MA, must pay online or get a bill in the mail
